The Memorial at the United States Air Force Academy is a charitable event held in honor of fallen cadets and graduates who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our great nation. Proceeds benefit the Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization which provides educational scholarships to children and spouses of deceased and wounded veterans.
Established in 2007 by Lt Col Dan Rooney, the foundation has awarded over 29,000 scholarships. We urge you to become a wingman, join the mission, and stand with the Folds of Honor!
The Memorial features a traditional 18 hole, 4 man scramble, and includes breakfast, lunch, door prizes, silent auction, and awards ceremony. Our guest speaker is Lt Col Dan Rooney, founder and CEO of the Folds of Honor. Lt Col Rooney is a decorated Air Force fighter pilot assigned to the 301st Fighter Squadron at Eglin AFB, FL and a PGA Professional.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation. The AFAAC assists the U.S. Air Force Academy with the development, funding and operations of intercollegiate athletic programs to build future leaders of character for our nation. During 2020-2021, the AFAAC funded over $20 million in equipment, uniforms, coaching services, logistical, and recruiting support to the Air Force Academy and defrayed $3.9 million in taxpayer expenses for the Academy’s 1200 Division I intercollegiate cadet athletes.
This is a Private Organization and is not a part of the Department of Defense or any of its components, and it has no governmental status.
HONOR THEIR SACRIFICE.
EDUCATE THEIR LEGACY.
Founded in 2007 by Lt Col Dan Rooney, the Folds of Honor has carried forth one singular, noble mission. From our humble beginnings to now, we have honored the sacrifice of those who serve by educating their legacy.
It began with Lt Col Rooney's flight home from his second tour of duty in Iraq. An F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, he became painfully aware of the realities families face when a loved one in uniform is fallen or disabled. As his flight landed, the pilot announced they carried the remains of Corporal Brock Bucklin on board. Lt Col Rooney watched as Corporal Bucklin’s twin brother walked somberly alongside the flag-covered casket to meet his family on the tarmac. Among them was the deceased Corporal’s young son, Jacob.
Since that night, Lt Col Rooney has committed his life – through the Folds of Honor – to provide scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members. Jacob Bucklin became the first Folds of Honor scholarship recipient in 2007. Since then, the Folds of Honor has proudly awarded over 30,000 educational scholarships.
Meet Ashley, Avery and Rachel. The Schafer family is one of the many USAFA families we assist through the Folds of Honor. Fallen hero, Major Rick "Tracer" Schafer, is a 2001 graduate.
